Our guided walking tours take place outdoors in the historic city of York. While we strive to make our tours as inclusive as possible, some features—such as cobbled streets, narrow pavements, and kerbs—cannot be altered.

Tour Details and Considerations

Tours last approximately 90 minutes and involve walking in an urban environment with occasional stops. Guests should have a moderate level of fitness and be able to keep up with the group. Street furniture is used where possible to provide rest points.

Surfaces may be uneven, wet, or icy, so care should be taken, particularly on cobbles, steps, and kerbs.

Tours are entirely outdoors, so visitors should dress appropriately for the weather. Sensible footwear is recommended due to uneven surfaces.

Lighting levels vary, especially in darker months, and some areas may have limited visibility.

Visitors are encouraged to stay hydrated and bring water, particularly on warmer days.

Wheelchair & Mobility Considerations

Guests using a wheelchair should be able to travel the full length of the tour. Some sections include cobbled streets, though alternative routes are available in most cases.

Manual wheelchair users may need to bring a personal assistant.

Self-propelled wheelchair users, even with assistance, may encounter difficulties on certain parts of the tour.

Guests using electric wheelchairs or mobility scooters should ensure their device has sufficient battery power for the entire tour.

Guides can advise on alternative routes where possible if wheelchair users encounter challenging terrain.

Hearing & Communication

Tours are primarily verbal, with stories delivered by trained guides experienced in projecting their voices outdoors. Background noise or the behaviour of passersby cannot be controlled.

Guide & Assistance Dogs

All dogs are welcome on our walking tours, including hearing dogs, registered guide dogs, and medical alert dogs. There’s no need to notify us in advance.

Toilet Facilities

As our tours are held outdoors, we cannot provide permanent toilet facilities. However, guides will always try to direct visitors to available public facilities if needed.

We encourage visitors to speak with their guide after the tour for directions to local transport or accommodations.

Tours have a maximum group size, so we recommend booking in advance via our website. Arrive 15 minutes early to ensure a prompt start.
